Das erste Album der Münchner Formation Jazzbirds, im Jahr 1996 von dem Komponisten und Gitarristen Stefan F. Huber gegründet, wurde in zwei Sessions aufgenommen: der „Summer Session“ (1999) und der „Autumn Session“ (2000). Der Band gelingt es, einen eigenen, gefühlvollen Stil zu kreieren, den man besten mit dem Prädikat „Urban Melodic Jazz“ beschreiben kann: Eine Melange aus zeitgenössischem Jazz, mit einer Prise Latin gewürzt. Die Band, deren Mitglieder allesamt professionelle Musiker der Münchner Jazzszene sind, erzeugt einen eigenen Sound, emotional und spannend, der sich zusammensetzt aus der Harmonik des Jazz und den Rhythmen der Latin-, Swing- und Fusionmusik. Charakteristisch für ihre Musik ist dabei die Großstadtatmosphäre, die durch die treibenden Grooves von Schlagzeug und Bass, die Big-Band-Arrangements und die Dialoge der beiden Bläser entsteht. Komponiert und arrangiert wird die Musik von Stefan F. Huber. Er erhielt sechs Jahre lang Unterricht in Komposition, mit Schwerpunkt auf Kontrapunkt, Arrangement und Instrumentation, bei Dr. phil. Alfred Goodman. Als Hörempfehlungen für die stilistische Vielfalt der Band seien die Songs „Dance Thru’ The Night“, und „Cruisin’ In Silence“ für Fusion, „Cafe La Luna“ und „Look In The Mirror“ für Latin, sowie die, dem Album den Namen gebende und im Stile eines Burt Bacharach von Stefan F. Huber komponierte und arrangierte Edelballade „Sunrise“ genannt. Beide Sessions wurden analog, auf einer 24 Spur Studer Tonbandmaschine aufgenommen.

The first album by the Munich group Jazzbirds, founded in 1996 by the composer and guitarist Stefan F. Huber, was recorded in two sessions, the “summer session” (1999) and the “autumn session” (2000). The band successfully creates its own, emotional style, which can best be described by the title “Urban Melodic Jazz”: a blend of contemporary jazz, spiced with a pinch of Latin. The members of the band are all professional musicians in the Munich jazz scene. The band’s individual sound is emotional and exciting, encompassing jazz harmony and the rhythms of Latin, Swing and Fusion music. The big-city atmosphere characteristic of the band’s music arises from the driving grooves of drums and bass, the Big Band arrangements and the dialogue of trumpet and saxophone. The music is composed and arranged by Stefan F. Huber. He studied composition with the main emphases on counterpoint, arrangement and instrumentation for six years with Dr. Alfred Goodman.
